NDPSFA Yr 3&4 Boys Indoor 5’s

Wednesday May 18th saw our year 3&4 boys play Newbury District Schools Football Association indoor tournament at Trinity school. Our boys faced 6 other schools, which included schools such as Falkland, Birch Corpse and Kintbury. We won 5 of our 6 games and played extremely well, despite not quite having enough points to make the final. However, the entertaining football we played and superb sportsmanship we showed,  earned ourselves the Team of the Tournament trophy! A huge well done to the boys that took part.

Some of our children came within the top 10 during certain events. A huge well done to our team who showed such dedication on a Saturday to represent the school.

Thatcham Town Ladies and Girls Football Tournament Yr 3 & 4

On Thursday 12th May our year 3&4 and 5&6 girl’s teams took part in Thatcham Town Ladies & girls’ primary school tournament at Newbury Rugby Club. Both of our girls teams faced several schools during the group stage of the competition. Our year 5&6 team played exceptionally well and managed to finish second in their group. Despite such a good performance, it was not enough to progress to the knockout stages.
Our year 3&4 team were group winners and progressed through to the semi’s where they played St Finians. After a tough game, a penalty shootout was required to separate the two schools. Fir Tree won the shootout and made it through to the final, where they had to play St Gabriels. A tense final game saw two teams cancelling one another out, but with 1 minute left to play, Fir Tree grabbed the winning goal. A brilliant effort from both of our teams. Well done!

Tag Rugby Festival

On Wednesday 16th March, our year 5&6 children competed in the finals of the county Tag Rugby Festival at Bisham Abbey in Marlow. In addition to the rugby, there were various activities taking place throughout the morning, such as football, hockey, tennis and badminton. Our children (Chloe Millon, Robbie Deane, Jaydon Bell, Jaydon Bird-Westall, Bradley Passey, Poppy Roberts, Mani Brown and Kyle Dyson) were representing West Berkshire and played schools from areas such as Wokingham, Reading, Maidenhead and Slough.  The competition was played in a fun and sporting manner with the winners chosen on their attitude and sportsmanship.
During the Afternoon, the children were able to venture around the grounds of the Abbey, and spend time participating in activities that they may have never tried before. On offer was a boat trip, cycling, archery, football skills and frisbee-golf. The children opted to spend most of their time playing frisbee-golf, competing against one another, as well as Mr Rose and Mr Nobes. The children also met Team GB Olympian Bobsleigh athlete Annabel Chaffey for a question and answer session. She was able to tell the children how she got into her sport and gave a very inspirational speech.
We all had a brilliant time but couldn't believe how quickly the day flew by! A huge well done to all of the children that took part for their effort, as well as their impeccable behaviour whilst representing the school

Year 2 Football Festival

On Monday 14th March, our year 2 children took part in a football festival at Park House School. The children (Oscar Dove, Dylan Hill, Amelie Meredith, Connor Harris, Kenzie-Joe Crowley and Alex Grzegorzko) had the opportunity to learn new skills and play some fun games, before playing friendlies against two schools. It was the first time our year 2 team has played together and they were absolutely fantastic. They showed off all of the skills they have been learning this year at football club, and impressed the coaches with their answers in the Q&A session at the end of their fun training games. A huge well done to our year 2's for their efforts!

KS1 Bowling Compeition

On Wednesday 10th February a group of Key Stage 1 children took part in the West Berks Schools bowling competition at MFL bowl. The children had the opportunity to have fun at "Crazy Club" in the soft play area, as well as having a go at bowling; something that a couple of our children had never done before. Our team, consisting of Lacey Croshaw, Ellie Drwal, Oscar Dove, Dylan Hill and Amelie Meredith, were placed first and won gold medals!

There was also a separate competition for any children that could score a "strike" during the time they spent bowling. Only 3 children across all of the schools that took part managed this. - Congratulations to Ellie Drwal, who not only scored one, but managed to score two!!!! A huge WELL DONE to the team.

New Yr 3 & 4 Sport Strip

Thursday 3rd December 2015 saw all of our children from Reception to Year 6 take part in the "Santa Fun Run", kindly organised by the FTSA. Our children spent the afternoon running laps of the school field in order to raise money for the school. Due to the incredible efforts of our children, as well as the sponsorship from their relatives and friends, the school was able to use some of this funding to purchase a much needed sports strip for years 3&4. The children are absolutely delighted, and would like to say thank you to all of you for your kindness and support. They would also like to say a special thank you to the FTSA who organised this event and made the whole thing possible.
Our year 3&4 girls will be playing on February 8th Vs St Gabriels @ 3.30pm. As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts, refreshments will be available for spectators. We welcome your support.

NDPSFA Indoor 5-a-side football competition

Wednesday 13th July saw our year 3&4 football team competed in the finals of the NDPSFA Doug Cook football competition at Trinity. Our girls qualified two weeks previous, having won their group.
The finals of the competition involved some extremely tricky fixtures. We faced Falkland, St Gabriels, St Finian’s, Shaw-cum-Donnington and Curridge. These teams were all qualifiers from their individual group, with St Finian’s (from Fir Tree’s group) joining the finals as the best second placed team. Our team had a brilliant start to the competition, beating Curridge and Falkland 3-0 and 1-0 respectively. In our third match we faced St Finian’s and after a hard fought battle the game ended 0-0. At this point, St Finian’s had also earned two wins, but had a superior goal difference to Fir Tree, having scored 6 goals in one game!
Fir Tree’s next game was a very difficult match against a strong St Gabriel’s team, who we’d faced in the final stages of previous competitions in the past. Fir tree finished the game as 1-0 winners.
St Finian’s continued their excellent run of results, managing to score 11 goals in 4 games. The final game for Fir Tree was simple; it was a must win and score as many as possible. The team put on an excellent performance and managed to beat Shaw-cum-Donnington 3-0.
We finished our set of games having won 4 and drawn 1. We were undefeated, had scored 8 goals and conceded 0, but despite this, we found ourselves in a position where, unbelievably, we could finish in second place.
The final match of the competition saw St Finians take on St Gabriels, a must win match for St Finians. Winning the game would result in them becoming champions. The game was extremely close. St Gabriel’s showed how brilliant they could work together as a team and played arguably their best performance of the competition. They made the game very tough for St Finians and held the potential champions to a 0-0 draw. This result meant that Fir Tree were crowned as worthy champions. Our team earned their second trophy of the year, having won the Thatcham Town Ladies and girls tournament in May. Huge congratulations to Caitlyn Jones, Joey Curtis, Tallulah Rix, Charlotte Lewendon, Kaidie-lee Reed and captain Ellie Herbert. These girls are all in year 3 and have been playing against girls, whom most of which are in year 4. They have also managed to go the whole season since September undefeated only conceding 1 goal. An Incredible achievement with many exciting years ahead. WELL DONE  girls!

Inter primary dodgeball

On Thursday 7th July, a team of children played Dodgeball at Park House with 15 other schools. It’s the first time that we’d entered this competition, but the team were very excited. Dodgeball is a very popular game at school that the all of the children really enjoy playing.
At the competition we faced 4 schools; Speenhamland, Hungerford, Curridge and Stockcross. Our team showed all of the dodgeball skills they’ve learned in PE and club, and played superbly throughout each match. Dodgeball is an extremely fast game, which is hard to referee. It was very impressive to see such sportsmanship from our children who left the field of play when they were hit. The maturity and fair play they displayed resulted in us receiving two “sportsmanship” bonus points during the tournament. Not only did the team win all of their games, but more importantly they did it in an outstanding manner. A huge well done to the team who won gold medals!

NDPSFA Year 5&6  6-a-side tournament @ Trinity

On Tuesday 5th July, our year 5&6 boys football team took in the Newbury District Primary Schools Association 6-a-side tournament. The team had a group which consisted of Birch Copse, Thatcham Park and Shaw-cum-Donnington. Fir Tree’s results in the group stage allowed the team to progress to the semi-fin al where we faced Hermitage, who were the winners of their group. A close game between the two sides meant that an after extra time score line of 0-0 had to be settled on penalties. Fir Tree were the winners of the semi- final, and progressed through to face Birch Copse, who were winners of our original group. Once again, a tight game prevented any side from finding a goal during the 8 mins of football, and led to another shootout. What was to come, was utterly gripping. Each of the 8 boys (including the goalkeepers) in both teams took a penalty each. There was nothing to separate the sides. After 16 penalties, each team started again. Every time Birch Copse missed a penalty or had one saved our goalkeeper (Kwesi Robinson), Fir Tree did the same! Unbelievably, after another round of 16 penalties, the scores remained level. The teams started the 3rd round, and on penalty number 14 of 16 and 25 minutes of penalties the game was finally settled. A total of 46 penalties were taken and  29 scored. Sadly, Fir Tree lost the shootout 15-14. We would like to say a huge well done to the boys on an amazing effort against a very good school. And a special well done and thank you to those who stepped up an age group and covered for players who were absent. WELL DONE!
