Welcome to Nursery - Acorn Class

My name is Miss Wood and I am the teacher in Acorn Class (Nursery). I am assisted throughout the day by Miss Crewe and Miss Eblowska. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us before or after a session.
There are currently two classes in the Nursery. A morning class that begins at 8.45-11.45 and an afternoon class that begins at 12.30-3.30.

Topic
This term our topic is called ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’Please take a look at the topic map to find out about all the exciting things we will be learning about. Iwill also begin to send weekly rhymes out in order to prepare for our rhyme challenge assembly.

I am encouraging the children to bring in items from home that interest them, for example, photos, leaflets from family trips etc. This will form a basis of my planning and the items will be displayed on ‘Our Wow Moments from Home Tree.’ Please can I ask that the children do not bring in toys from home as they might get broken or misplaced.
WOW slips
Don’t forget to fill out a WOW slip when your child has a WOW moment. I love to hear about these and the children love to share them with their friends!

Please also take a look at the topic map for all the exciting things I have planned for the children.
Each Friday, I send home a learning letter which tells you about what we have done in the week and how you can help your child at home.

Reading
At this stage, I am sending story books home for you to share with your child. These will get changed every Monday and Wednesday but if you would like a new book more regularly, please feel free to come and change it in the classroom. If I could just ask you to sign it out in the reading folder.
It would be really beneficial if you could find a quiet time to share the book without any distractions. We also encourage the children to hold the book and turn the pages themselves. You could discuss with your child what is happening in the pictures or ask them questions about what might happen next.

If you feel that you would like help on supporting your child with their learning, please come and see me and I would be more than happy to help you.

PE
We are very lucky to be taught PE by Mr Nobes every Friday. At this stage, the children will only remove their shoes, socks and jumpers. However, later on in the year, I would like for the children to begin changing to get them ready for starting reception. I will let you know about this in due course.

Just to remind you that I do not teach the class on a Friday morning as this is my PPA time. However, I am always in school if you wish to speak to me. Mrs Dove will teach on this day.

I will regularly update the website with pictures of what we have been doing so please keep checking our page!

I look forward to working with you this year.
